A project called “East of Broadway” was recently considered by the Everett Planning Board. This proposal, located in the city’s gateway on Lower Broadway, envisions the development of multiple sites across from the Encore Boston Harbor casino and hotel. It includes a 15,365 square foot restaurant, 20,153 square foot nightclub, 15,566 square foot rooftop day club, 7,826 square foot comedy club, 25,919 square foot function room, 980-seat theater and associated pre-function space, 10,446 square foot foyer and atrium, and 2,137 space parking garage.
The proposal also includes an elevated pedestrian bridge across Broadway to connect to the Encore Boston Harbor site. This would alleviate traffic congestion and improve public safety as pedestrians will be taken off the street. Additionally, this project provides an easement to the city for dedicated bus lanes. Studies are currently being conducted by MassDOT, the City of Everett, the City of Boston, and other stakeholders to determine whether center-lane bus lanes or dedicated bus lanes on the sides of Broadway would be more efficient in connecting to Boston’s Rutherford Avenue bus lane in the future.
“East of Broadway” would provide additional access to riverfront recreational opportunities, encourage a diverse mix of uses and transportation modes, generate jobs and business development, and contribute to the city’s tax base. As such, it would further position Everett as a regional destination.
